Inspired by Medea, Matea is a Jewish woman living in secret in a concentration camp with Jonas—a fast-rising, Nazi officer—and their son. As Jonas begins supervising the new head doctor, Matea is visited by Prisoner 4712, who implores Matea to kill the doctor, as well as by Alma, an ancestor hiding inside Matea's record player.
Alterations to gender or age are not only permitted but celebrated.
